Safe Learners and Safeguarding
Health and safety
We are committed to the principles of the Safe Learner programme as set out by the SFA at the following web site:
http://www.safelearner.info/home.htm
A “safe learner” will, through the quality of their learning experience:
- gain an understanding of the importance of health and safety,
- understand how hazards are identified, risks are assessed and the principles of control measures
- develop a set of safe behaviours, so that they play an active part in the process and acquire practical, transferable skills from their experience.
We are committed to giving health and safety the highest priority in all of our activities.
We expect staff, students, visitors, contractors and other employers to share this commitment by complying with our policies and, where appropriate, our procedures and to understand that they too have legal and moral obligations to themselves and to one another.
When we operate on customer sites, we will establish clear lines of responsibility for the effective coordination of health and safety between tutors, assessors and employees.
Learners will be invited to pre-notify Skills Team of any health and safety or disability concerns they may have as part of the initial assessment process. Tutors and assessors will make every effort to take account of any identified issues in delivering each programme as far as it is practical to do so.
Tutors and assessors will continue to be vigilant for any further health and safety or disability issues that may become evident during the course of the programme and on leaving their programme, individuals will be asked to evaluate what they have learned about health and safety through their programme and what practical changes they have/will be making as a result
Safeguarding
Skills Team fully recognises its responsibilities in respect of the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. A child is defined as an individual under the age of 18 years old.
Our policy applies to all staff and to any individual or agency providing training or assessment services on behalf of Skills Team Ltd.
We will ensure that:
- all staff who have contact with children or vulnerable adults have undertaken a CRB check or are supervised by someone who has been CRB checked
- we have a designated senior person responsible for the protection of children and vulnerable adults who has received appropriate training and support for this role
- all staff understand their responsibilities for referring any concerns to the designated senior person responsible for the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
We will follow the London Safeguarding Board Child Protection Procedures whenever a concern arises regarding the safety or welfare of a child.
We will follow Local Authority guidance whenever a concern arises in respect the safety or welfare of a vulnerable adult.
