Is the IT-Pro really better than going to university?
Let’s get real, going to Uni is an opportunity. So what can it offer:
- Meeting new friends and having fun
- New experiences
- A qualification that might give you a jump start on your career
- You may be more likely to get a better/more interesting job
- A chance to open your mind and get involved in lots of different things
- Become self sufficient
- Meet different people and experience new opportunities
But it’s not all upside. There are some real issues to consider about going to Uni:
- Cost/debt. It costs between £37-42k now and from September 2012 it’s going up to £55-60k to get a degree
- There’s no guarantee of a job when you graduate and you are three years behind others who did not go to Uni
- There’s no guarantee nowadays that you will earn more in your career than a non-graduate
- It’s not like school, there’s no real tutor support or someone to push you to learn and if you fail then you are really in a bad place. As one person put it:

- Your degree may have no relation to your final job
- Its academic study which means study/work/exams/reading books/study/books/exams…
So what does the IT-Pro programme offer over going to Uni?
- Save money – only costs £3,500k
- Save time – finished in a just one year
- Right qualification – recognised and sought after by all IT professionals
- Meet new friends
- Have fun – its not all study. There is lots of time for doing fun things, plus it's based in London with a brilliant range of clubs, bars, music venues etc
- Tutor support throughout and all the help you need to get your qualification
- There is some academic study, but most of the course is practical, giving you real skills that you need for your career
- Work experience so you have relevant experience on your CV when you apply for jobs
- Support from our job search teams to get you that vital first step on the ladder
- Earn money while you are on work placement as part of the programme.
- Meet different people, experience new things
- Become self-sufficient – you will be helping to support real people in real situations as part of the programme
- Explore different career options within the IT industry to help decide the best route for you
In short – it’s a win-win opportunity.
