16-18 year olds
Breaking into the job market and getting your feet on the first rung of the career ladder is always difficult and especially so at the moment as the UK comes out of a period of recession. There are fewer jobs around and with no real work experience; you are likely to come in the bottom half of any list of job applicants.
But how can you get experience if you can’t get a job?
That’s why we have developed our special Internship programme; only open to young people between 16 to 18 years old, that aims to develop your general employability skills in an intensive 4-week training programme. We then place you as an Intern with local employers for a period of 8 to 12 weeks of real work experience. At the end of the Internship, you may be offered a full time job with the same employer but even if not, you will have real experience and solid employer references to put on your CV, so that you can go for your next job with confidence.
The programme is built around IT and general office skills which will equip you to go for a wide range of jobs in the many service sector employers across London. We will cover IT user skills, dealing with customers, general communication, employment rights and responsibilities and administrative skills, plus help with getting your CV ready and interview techniques. We will set up interviews for you with employers and you will be assigned a personal mentor to support you throughout the programme.
Entry to the programme is by selection which will involve coming to our offices for a chat about yourself and your interests, plus an assessment of your current skills. To find out more, download the programme outline and call or email us to book an appointment to meet one of our programme advisers.
"Skills Team helped my turn my life around when I needed it. They set up interviews and I got an internship in the city. I am currently an apprentice working as an admin assistant at a financial advisory firm in the financial district of London. It's something that not only I am proud of, but also all of my family and friends."

Whilst at Skills Team I learnt a lot not just about IT, but about myself as a person, like how I work with other people and how I approach my work.
The trainers that we had were extremely helpful when teaching usabout the various elements to IT and were always helpful if we didn’t understand.
Through the programme I was able to gain employment from an IT company called SoftWire. Before my placement Skills Team helped me with my interview skills and made sure that I was fully prepared for my interview with help from my mentors. I get along well with the people I worked with at SoftWire and I owe Skills Team a lot for the tools they have given me.
