Apprenticeships
There has been a lot of talk about apprenticeships and they are a key part of the Government’s plans for workforce development over the next 4 years. But what are they and what do they involve? More importantly – would they be right for you?
You can undertake an apprenticeship in most job disciplines now as most industries have agreed the blend of skills or Apprenticeship Framework that is required to qualify people to work in their sector. Some are very sector specific like an Apprenticeship in Child Care and Early Years Development whilst others cover skills more generally applied across many industries like IT or Management.
Apprenticeships can be taken at different levels although most are either at level 2 – a good entry level for the workforce or level 3 – for people in roles with a little more responsibility, perhaps for a small team of people or one area of operation.
You have to study and gain certification on four different elements to complete your apprenticeship. These elements cover your skills in work, your underpinning knowledge and understanding, your functional skills and your knowledge of rights and responsibilities in work.
We provide all the necessary advice and guidance, training, assessment, testing, documentation and mentoring to help you through the whole process.
We currently offer the following apprenticeships.

Whilst at Skills Team I learnt a lot not just about IT, but about myself as a person, like how I work with other people and how I approach my work.
The trainers that we had were extremely helpful when teaching usabout the various elements to IT and were always helpful if we didn’t understand.
Through the programme I was able to gain employment from an IT company called SoftWire. Before my placement Skills Team helped me with my interview skills and made sure that I was fully prepared for my interview with help from my mentors. I get along well with the people I worked with at SoftWire and I owe Skills Team a lot for the tools they have given me.

At Skills Team I learnt valuable lessons which are transferable both in my professional and personal life such as the ability to work with others successfully whilst forming friendships with the other people in other groups.
The trainers were helpful, going over various aspects of the work with those of us who needed it, helping us to finish off our work to a high standard. We learnt helpful tips on how to us use Word, Microsoft,PowerPoint and Outlook which was really useful when it came to my work placement.
As a result of taking part in the Skills Team program I gained employment at as a telesales advisor and general administrator. Whilst working at Serna Services I was able to take full advantage of all the skills that I had learned and found it very beneficial. I decided in the end to go to University and I
know the skills and experience I have gained through Skills Team will be a great help in the rest of my career.
